Damn, I'm so happy!!

Hooray!!

It’s been a week since we officially launched Lawrence & Argyle, and I could not be happier about it. This baby was in me for so long and I’ve finally given birth to it! It feels amazing. I’m so excited to offer apparel that allows people to express the appreciation they have for immigrants in the U.S.

About our inaugural collection

We’re starting small - there are two shirt designs: Child of Immigrants, and We Are All American.

My first love, no matter what else we create in the future, will always be Child of Immigrants. I was born in America to parents from another country, and this has informed my thinking and stretched me mentally and emotionally in ways that have been painful, but have led to incredible personal growth and a multicultural perspective. If you come from a similar background, you know what I’m talking about. I’m proud to be part of this club, otherwise known as Generation 1.5 (hmm, I should make a shirt that says that).

We Are All American is for those of us who want to stand in solidarity with people of who might have recently come or are facing obstacles in their journey to become American. Even if we have different skin colors, religions, socioeconomic backgrounds or lifestyles, we at least have our nationality in common.

Frankly, I don’t care if people have papers or not. What do papers matter when you’re trying to put food in your baby’s mouth and give your family a safe home. For many people trying to get across our southern border, it’s literally a matter of life or death. I’m on their side. People move mountains to get here. Despite all our country’s ridiculous policies and politics, I know that I was just lucky. My American-ness is an accident of birth.

What's next?

Lawrence & Argyle’s expansion is already on my mind. We’ve gotten requests for other designs, especially ones that simply say IMMIGRANT. Yes!!! I’m working on that as we speak. We also plan to create hoodies, hats, pins and patches, and kids’ shirts. Coming soon!

I/We

Note that when I say “we,” I really just mean me. I’m just one proud Asian-American female entrepreneur, and I’m loving every second of it. If you have ideas or feedback, please let me know via the contact page! I’m looking forward to hearing from you.

-Jenn
